The NIN is a government-issued and unique number for every Nigerian and one that is currently managed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). For most official assignments, the NIN has become one of the requirements to tender before an official can attend to you. For instance, there is no international passport without providing the NIN number.
Now that the directive has been given by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), it is now compulsory for everyone with a sim card to register for NIN especially when the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is currently harmonizing NIN with the bank verification number (BVN).
It is on this information that the GLO network decided it needs to provide an easy way for customers to link their Glo network to NIN Number and then avoid visiting any of their experience centres.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (NIN)
If you have not registered for your National Identification Number (NIN), then you will need to arrange a visit to any of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) offices. It is free of charge to register for NIN.
However, some dishonest officials often try to make money from it, insist on not paying for registration NIN unless you just want to part with some cash. NIN registration is also available at designated Zenith Bank branches. You might need to check www.zenithbank.com/nin to confirm which of the branches you should visit.
For the registration, you will need to provide any of the following documents, they are Driver’s License, Nigerian International passport, Old National ID Card, Voter’s card (Temporary or Permanent), Certificate of Origin, Birth certificate, Attestation letter from a prominent ruler in your community, Declaration of age, etc.
Minor will need to be accompanied by the parent or guardian. At the office, the guardian/parent will provide a copy of his or her NIN plus a testimonial or original birth certificate for NIN registration.
After registration, you will be given a Transaction ID Slip which will be used to collect the NIN slip. The slip should be available in 2 to 7 days. However, an SMS will be sent to you when it is ready but if you do not receive it, you can visit the NIMC in 4 days.
HOW TO LINK YOUR NIN WITH YOUR GLO PHONE NUMBER
- To link your National Identification Number (NIN) to your Glo Phone Number, send UPDATENIN NIN FIRSTNAME LASTNAME to 109.
- Alternatively, you can link your NIN with your GLO by visiting gloworld.com/ng/nin. Provide your details and click submit.
- If you have forgotten your NIN number, dial *346# from the phone number you used during your NIN registration.
- The NIN submitted here will be verified against the NIMC database. You will be contacted if there are any issues with this verification for re-validation.
